If you spend any time watching television you might have seen public service ad’s warning us to get prepared for something. Many of these Ad’s are simply government prepper messages. If the US Government is telling us to prepare, you had better listen. They are expecting something big to happen whether its severe storms, civil breakdown, war or something even worse. Fact is they are warning us now!
What wouldn’t surprise me is something like a wide area internet attack shutting our information technology down or worse, an attack on the power grid shutting off our electricity which would also bring our information to a halt.
Before the internet there was Radio. People listened to the radio in their homes, cars everywhere. Radio broadcast news, weather, spiritual and educational programs over the airwaves.
People socialized using radio as well with Citizens band radio and Ham radio. Recent changes to FCC rules regarding CB now make it legal to transmit beyond our borders (That used to be illegal). Base station antennas filled the neighborhoods, mobile antennas were on many vehicles on our roads. It was a hot thing to be able to talk over a few miles to your buddies each night.
In 2022 the FCC authorized FM mode on CB radio and here in 2023 there are several new radio that have this option. Some of the newer radios incorporate CTCSS privacy codes and even newer, with the President Electronics MCKINLEY II, Single Sideband with AM & FM. The McKinley will undoubtedly become the preppers radio.
This will be a useful tool in the event of some unknown, impending doom. One of the other points on CB is that it’s only a 4 watt radio. It does not use a lot of power so it won’t drain a battery quickly. So if we did lose electricity, we still have cars so we can still charge batteries and continue to use small DC electronics. If you don’t have a radio, you are at a serious disadvantage.
